Thinking about a backyard pod house or tiny home? Our prefab pods arrive fully built, with walls, kitchen, bathroom, double-glazed windows and wiring all done. Here's what happens between placing your order and stepping inside your new backyard space, and how long each stage takes.
Typical total time: 20–24 weeks from order confirmation to delivery in the Perth metro area.
Week 0 · Before you order
Site check & approvals
Most of our customers set the Savanna Pod up on a registered trailer (sold separately), which means it's treated as a tiny home on wheels rather than a building. There's no building permit or engineering certification involved. You apply to your local council for a temporary accommodation approval, which can be granted for up to two years at a time and renewed.
Our pods are not certified to the National Construction Code (NCC), so they aren't suited to being fixed permanently to the ground as a dwelling without further works and certification. Any approvals for your site are your responsibility as the owner, so we suggest a quick chat with your council before ordering. We can provide the specs, photos and test reports they'll ask for.
We'll also confirm access for delivery: gate width, overhead lines and where your pod will sit.
You'll need: your address, a rough idea of placement, and photos of the access route.
Week 1 · Order confirmed
Deposit & order lock-in
Once you're happy, a 20% deposit secures your pod and your place in the production schedule. You'll receive a written order confirmation with your specifications, inclusions and estimated delivery window.
Weeks 1–2 · Make it yours
Choose your interior finishes
You select your wall panels, kitchen cabinetry and flooring from our curated ranges, and we send you a rendered preview of your exact colour combination before anything goes into production.
Included as standard: double-glazed windows with fly screens, silica-free stone benchtop, full kitchen and bathroom fit-out.
Weeks 2–9 · In production
Your pod is built
Your pod is built to your specification in a dedicated modular housing facility, with steel frame, insulated sandwich panel walls, wiring, plumbing and finishes all completed under one roof in around 45 days. The electrical fit-out is to Australian standards (AS/NZS) with Australian outlets, plumbing fixtures and fittings are WaterMark certified and WELS rated, and materials are tested asbestos-free by a NATA-accredited Australian laboratory.
We share progress photos during the build so you can watch your pod take shape.
Weeks 9–21 · On the water
Shipping & customs clearance
Your finished pod is loaded into a shipping container and sails to Fremantle over 10–12 weeks. We manage the import: freight, insurance, biosecurity and customs documentation, including the independent lab reports Australian Border Force expects for modular buildings.
Weeks 21–24 · Delivery
Into position and connected
Your pod arrives fully assembled. We'll help coordinate placement to suit your site, through our transport and crane contacts or a contractor of your choice. Once it's in position, a licensed electrician connects the pod's single inbound power supply and a licensed plumber connects water and drainage.
Hot water pipework comes pre-installed; your plumber fits a locally sourced hot water unit during connection.

Why a pod instead of building on site?
A granny flat or backyard studio built on site in Perth can take the better part of a year with trades, weather delays and approvals. A prefab pod arrives as a complete, finished tiny home with kitchen, bathroom, insulation and electrics done. On a registered trailer, the approval is a simple temporary accommodation application to your council rather than a full building permit, making it one of the fastest ways to add a guest space, studio or home office to your backyard.
